The short version
We collect as little as possible, we never sell data, and we never ask for your child's name or details. This website uses no cookies, no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics.
What we collect when you visit
To understand which pages help parents, our own server counts visits. For each page view we record: the page, the date and time, roughly how long the page was open and how far it was scrolled, the referring website, the type of device and browser, and the country and city your internet connection appears to come from. The country and city are worked out from the network address by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, at the moment of the visit; we do not store your IP address.
To count unique visitors without cookies, we combine the network address and browser type with a random code that is created fresh every day and deleted after two days, and keep only a one-way scrambled code. It cannot be turned back into your address and cannot link your visits across days. Page-view records are deleted after 13 months.
When you click a link to our YouTube channel, our server counts the click before sending you on. YouTube's own privacy policy applies on YouTube. Videos embedded on this site use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
When you join
We store your email address, and optionally your first name, region and your children's age bands, so we can send the weekly Briefing. We ask you to confirm by email first. Every email has a one-tap unsubscribe, and unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days.
Notifications and the app
If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us an anonymous delivery address. We use it only to tell you about new episodes and research. Turn notifications off at any time on the app page or in your phone's settings.
